Northern Grampians – Victoria
For me, the Northern Grampians are one of those destinations that truly fill my cup – a place where adventure and calm meet perfectly. Unlike the busier trails in other parts of Grampians National Park, the Hollow Mountain walk feels more remote and peaceful. The tracks are beautifully maintained, winding through towering rocks and rugged landscapes, yet still accessible enough to make you feel at ease.

What I love most is the balance it offers. There are moments of grounding calm as I take in the sweeping views and breathe in the stillness of the bush and then bursts of excitement as I scramble on all fours up rocky sections of the trail. It’s both energising and restorative and every time I visit I leave feeling lighter and more connected to nature.
The Northern Grampians are definitely my happy place – where I find adventure, serenity and a reminder of how good it feels to just be outdoors.

Bruny Island – Tasmania
On my recent trip to Tasmania, I rediscovered a place that captured both my love of adventure and my need to unwind – Bruny Island. It was the perfect escape with the best of both worlds: raw adventure at sea and quiet moments on land, bringing the most unique landscapes and wildlife at your footsteps.
One of the most epic experiences on Bruny Island is the Wilderness Cruise, departing from Adventure Bay (or Hobart, depending on your tour). After a quick briefing, you gear up in bright red waterproof jackets and head out into the ocean. What follows is a breath-taking 3-hour marine adventure – cruising past towering sea cliffs, navigating deep sea caves and witnessing the famous Breathing Rock. Along the way, you may even spot dolphins leaping alongside the boat, migrating whales, soaring seabirds and the cutest fur seals lounging just metres from the action.

Back on land, Bruny invites you to slow down. After the adrenaline rush, you can grab lunch at the Bruny Island Cheese and Beer Co and try some pure Tasmanian honey at Bruny Island Honey. Don’t miss out on catching a sunset at the iconic Truganini Lookout before you catch the Sealink ferry back to Hobart!

The Glow Worm Tunnel – Adventure Close to Sydney, NSW
Just a couple of hours from Sydney, Wollemi National Park is home to the fascinating Glow Worm Tunnel, an abandoned railway tunnel now famous for its twinkling glow-worms. At first glance, the tunnel doesn’t look like much – just a dark, damp entry surrounded by bushland. The walk in can get muddy and I quickly wished I had worn my proper hiking shoes. In an attempt to stay above the mud, I balanced along the old railway track, which made the walk slower but added to the sense of adventure.
Stepping into the tunnel at first feels underwhelming – cold, wet, and pitch black. But as you keep going, the quiet deepens and tiny specks of blue begin to appear. A few metres later, the ceiling transforms into a starry sky of thousands of glowing lights. No photo can capture just how magical it is; you really need to be there, standing in the stillness, to take it all in.

For me, that combination of mud, challenge, and the reward of discovering an otherworldly natural light show is exactly what makes the Glow Worm Tunnel the perfect adventure close to Sydney.

Hamilton Island, QLD
Hamilton Island, nestled in the heart of Australia’s Whitsundays, is one of those rare places that truly offers the best of both worlds: amazing adventure and pure relaxation.
For those seeking thrills, Hamilton Island is a gateway to the world-famous Great Barrier Reef. Spend your day snorkelling or diving among colourful coral gardens and marine life, or set out on a boating trip to discover hidden coves and nearby islands. Hiking the island’s trails was another favourite, with the reward of sweeping views across the turquoise Coral Sea.

But Hamilton Island also has options for slowing things down. A day trip to the world-famous Whitehaven Beach felt like stepping into paradise, with its soft, white sand and crystal-clear water perfect for swimming and unwinding. Back at Catseye Beach, you can enjoy paddleboarding, kayaking, or just let the hours slip by, floating in calm waves and soaking up the sun.
Evenings are magical. A sunset cruise, with a cocktail in hand, is a perfect way to appreciate the sky exploding in shades of orange and pink. Then sit down at one of the many casual restaurants to savour a nice meal. These quiet moments perfectly balance the adventure-filled days.
Whether you’re seeking exciting activities or tranquil escapes, Hamilton Island offers an unforgettable mix. For us, it was the perfect blend of discovery and relaxation – an Australian paradise we’d return to in a heartbeat.
