Page, a city of Arizona that can’t be missed! Discovering the wonders of Page, Arizona: a must-visit destination in the USA!!!

The AZ city of Page

Located in the northern parts of Arizona near the Utah border, Page is a hidden gem that deserves a spot on every traveller’s itinerary. Having learned about it from Instagram a number of years ago, I soon discovered that it was known for its jaw-dropping landscapes, iconic landmarks like Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon, and its proximity to the Colorado River. Page was the complete package – offering a combination of adventure, natural beauty and cultural experiences.

During our trip through Arizona, we spent a memorable night in Page as part of an overnighter from Sedona. Although our visit was brief, the experiences we had left a lasting mark and we couldn’t recommend this destination more highly.

Horseshoe Bend at sunset

Our first stop in Page was the world-famous Horseshoe Bend, a dramatic curve in the Colorado River framed by towering red rock cliffs. We arrived just after sunset, missing the golden hour by minutes, but the view was no less awe-inspiring.

The parking lot was bustling, so we recommend arriving early to secure a spot. A small entry fee is required, as the site is managed by the City of Page, and unfortunately, the America the Beautiful Pass doesn’t cover it. From the parking area, a downhill walk on a well-maintained trail leads to the overlook (lookout as we more commonly call them in Australia).

Even in the fading light, the bend was mesmerising. We explored multiple viewpoints, taking care to stay a safe distance from the cliff edges. As the day turned to night, we climbed to a higher vantage point, where our kids were thrilled to scale the rocky terrain. The descent in near darkness by torchlight was a little precarious, but it added to the adventure and became a highlight of our visit.

Dinner and Accommodation in Page

After our Horseshoe Bend visit, we ate at Fiesta Mexicana, a lively and colourful restaurant in the heart of Page. The food was nothing short of delicious, with great flavours and hearty portions – a perfect way to end a big day.

Our accommodation, Travel Lodge by Wyndham Page, for the night was basic but comfortable and remarkably affordable at just $63 (at the time of booking, March 2024), including breakfast. It was the least expensive stay of our entire trip and met all our needs for a restful night before another day of exploring.

Glen Canyon Dam overlook

The next morning, after breakfast, we made a quick stop at the Glen Canyon Dam overlook. This lesser-known viewpoint offered stunning views of the Colorado River and the sheer cliffs that plunged into its waters were spectacular. It was a peaceful spot and a nice way to start our day!

Antelope Canyon X: A Hidden Gem

Antelope Canyon is one of the crown jewels of Page, but tours can be pricey and crowded. After extensive research, we opted for a Canyon X tour, a lesser-known to the more famous Upper and Lower Antelope Canyons. Each Canyon offers something unique and special.

The tour exceeded all expectations. Our small group and knowledgeable guide made the experience intimate and informative. The swirling sandstone formations, carved by centuries of water and wind, were otherworldly. We had plenty of time to explore, take photos and soak in the beauty of this natural wonder. We would highly recommend this tour!

A Local Tip: Marble Canyon and Lees Ferry

Before leaving Page, our guide suggested we visit Marble Canyon and Lees Ferry, a short drive away. Following this advice turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip.

After grabbing lunch at Walmart, we made our way to Lees Ferry, where we enjoyed a picnic on the jetty by the Colorado River. Surrounded by towering, multicoloured rock formations, it was a serene and unforgettable moment – a perfect conclusion to our time in Page.

Stop at Navajo Historic Bridge

On your way to or from Lees Ferry, make time for a stop at the Navajo Historic Bridge. Spanning the Colorado River at Marble Canyon, this historic bridge offers a pedestrian walkway where you can take in spectacular vistas of the canyon walls and the river far below. Walking across the bridge was an unforgettable experience. It gave us great perspective of the sheer scale and beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Though our visit to Page was brief, it was packed with incredible experiences that left us in awe of Arizona’s natural beauty. Whether you’re hiking to iconic viewpoints, marvelling at the artistry of slot canyons, or simply enjoying a quiet moment by the Colorado River, Page seriously has something to offer all nature loving travellers!

If you’re planning a trip to the USA, make sure to include Page on your itinerary. Conveniently located about three and a half hours from Sedona or two and a half hours from Flagstaff (which has an airport), we promise it’s a destination you’ll never forget.

I did lots of research in the lead up to our trip to Page. Although we did have a rental car and I think you would definitely need one to travel around the USA, we did look at all of our options to find the best way to see the places we wanted to see.

To get into one of the Antelope Canyons, you must go in with a guide. There are a number of companies to choose from, so I would always recommend doing your research and find the one that best suits you and your group.
