It’s also home to Finland’s southernmost fell (Arctic hill), making it a great challenge and popular place to visit for avid hikers.
• Lake Kemijärvi: Finland’s northernmost large lake offers opportunities for swimming, fishing and kayaking. You can rent a boat or join a guided fishing tour to experience the lake first-hand. In autumn, the vibrant Ruska (autumn foliage) around the lake creates absolutely breath-taking views perfect for photography or peaceful walks.

• Skiing and snowboarding: The nearby Pyhä and Luosto resorts offer fantastic downhill skiing and snowboarding. Cross-country skiing trails in and around Kemijärvi cater to all skill levels and provide a unique way to explore the snow-covered area.
• Northern lights viewing: Kemijärvi’s location in the Arctic Circle makes it a prime spot for witnessing the Northern Lights.
• Snowmobiling and husky safaris: Adventure seekers can take part in guided snowmobile tours or husky sledding experiences.. These activities provide an exciting way to explore Kemijarvi’s wilderness.

Getting to Kemijärvi

Kemijärvi has a range of transport options and there will be one to suit everyone. It is easily accessible by train from Helsinki. For those preferring to fly, Rovaniemi or Kuusamo airports are just a short drive away, with regular flights connecting from Helsinki and other European cities.
