Santa Claus Village vs Santa Park: Which Should You Visit?

Confused About the “Santa Parks” in Lapland? Let us help you out!

When we first planned our trip to Lapland from Australia, we were so excited to experience the magic of Christmas in Santa’s hometown. But honestly? We were also a little confused. With all the talk about Santa Claus Village and Santa Park, we couldn’t figure out if they were the same place, how they were different, or which one to prioritise. It felt a bit overwhelming!

Thankfully, after visiting both, we can confidently say that we thought both amazing – and very different in their own special ways. To help make your Lapland adventure a little easier to plan, here’s a personal rundown of what you can expect at each one – Santa Claus Village vs. Santa Park!

Santa Claus Village: Year Round Christmas Fun in the Arctic Circle

Santa Claus Village is an iconic outdoor destination that feels like stepping into a real-life snow globe. Located right on the Arctic Circle, it’s free to enter, with plenty of activities to enjoy:

• Meet Santa Claus in his office for a photo and a chat (no matter the season!).
• Cross the Arctic Circle, marked with a line running through the village.
• Go on adventures, like reindeer sleigh rides, husky safaris and snowmobile tours.
• Shop for gifts and souvenirs at charming stores filled with Finnish crafts.
• Dine in style, with options ranging from cosy cafes to full-service restaurants.

This place feels alive with Christmas spirit all year round, making it perfect for Christmas lovers! In winter, we loved wandering through the snowy paths and soaking up the festive vibe! In autumn when I visited, it was still really fun to wander around and look at the Village. Santa Claus Office was still a buzz with all things Christmas and it was a special place to visit.

Santa Park: An Underground Christmas Adventure

Just a short drive from the Village, Santa Park is like diving straight into the pages of a Christmas storybook. Located entirely underground, it’s designed to look like Santa’s hidden workshop and the magic here is real.

Here’s what we loved about Santa Park:

• Elf School: Learn the secrets of being an elf from Santa’s helpers (and earn your Elf Diploma!).
• Gingerbread Decorating: Get hands-on in Mrs. Claus’ bakery – fun and yum!
• Ice Gallery: Marvel at stunning ice sculptures in this frosty wonderland.
• Christmas Shows: Watch interactive performances that bring the North Pole to life. The acrobatics of the elves was something special to watch!
• Magic Train: We whizzed around on the Magic Train a number of times watching the Christmas story unfold. This was a family favourite!
• VR: We loved joining Santa on his trip around the world using the VR goggles – this was lots of fun!

Santa Park is especially perfect for younger kids or anyone who loves creative, interactive experiences. It’s a little more structured than the Village, but just as magical and fun!

So, Which One Should You Visit?

Honestly, if you have the time, do both! Each offers a unique take on Christmas magic and together they create a well-rounded Christmas adventure.

If you’re short on time or trying to prioritise:

• Go to Santa Claus Village if you love the idea of outdoor fun, crossing the Arctic Circle and exploring freely.
• Choose Santa Park for an immersive, storybook-like experience filled with hands-on activities.

Our Top Tip

Don’t try to visit both on the one day! There is too much to enjoy at both places. Combine Santa Claus Village with Snowman World and perhaps an activity such as a reindeer sleigh ride or snowmobile adventure! Plan to be at Santa Park to capture one of the elves shows. We enjoyed sitting in the cafeteria (with our packed lunches) watching the elves flip and dance across the stage.

BUT, if time is limited or you simply want a taste of both, take advantage of a combo experience and get the best of both Santa worlds!
