The short answer? It depends on you. Some people feel the cold more than others and your choice of winter clothing plays a huge role in staying warm. But let’s dig into the details, especially if you’re gearing up for incredible activities like husky sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, ice fishing or simply wandering through magical snowy landscapes and streets of Lappish cities.

What we learned during our Lapland Christmas trip
When we visited Lapland in December 2022, we were ready for anything. We packed both disposable and reusable hand and feet warmers, expecting to need them during our Arctic adventures. But here’s the twist:
- Disposable warmers? We didn’t use them at all! Not once.
- Reusable warmers? We tested them one time, mostly out of curiosity.
Turns out, with the right layers and quality winter gear, we didn’t feel the need for extra warmth.
Our recommendation!
- Skip the disposables from Australia. Save your luggage space! If you decide you need them, they’re easy to buy in Lapland.
- Consider packing a couple of reusable warmers. These are eco-friendly, lightweight, and great as a backup.
The bottom line? With proper winter clothing – thermal layers, insulated boots and good gloves – you might not need warmers at all!

Good news – with the right preparation, you’ll be snug and cosy! Lapland adventure providers usually offer top-notch gear for activities like snowmobiling, so you’ll be well-covered.
Walking in the snow, snowshoeing, or enjoying the magical Northern Lights? As long as you’re moving and dressed warmly, you’ll feel fine without warmers.
If you’re worried about the cold, you can always grab warmers locally when you’re there. They’re widely available in Finnish shops, so you’ll never be left out in the cold!
