Arctic City Hotel Rovaniemi review – a luxury base in the heart of the city
If you’re after a Rovaniemi city-centre hotel that feels special the moment you walk in, Arctic City Hotel is the one. From the outside in autumn it’s fairly unassuming, but push through those doors and the whole mood shifts – dark, moody colours, comfortable lounges in reception and juice and water waiting for you on arrival. It’s a genuinely warm welcome, backed up by great customer service throughout the stay.

First impressions – warm, moody, welcoming
Arctic City Hotel doesn’t try to sell itself from the street. In autumn especially, the exterior is nothing to write home about. But that’s exactly what makes walking through the doors such a nice surprise – dark, moody colours, comfortable reception lounges and a warm, welcoming feeling from the moment you arrive, juice and water included. In winter it’s a different story again, dressed in snow with that magical Christmas charm that makes the whole street feel festive. Oh, and did I mention that you are greeted by Santa Claus when the elevator door opens?!
Location – right in the middle of it all
This is one of the hotel’s strongest points. It sits with excellent proximity to Rovaniemi town centre, so you’re close to everything without needing to rely on taxis for every trip out. Transfers can also be arranged through the hotel, which is a handy option if you’d rather not walk with luggage.
Rooms – modest in size, luxurious in feel
The rooms themselves are on the smaller side, but what they lack in size they make up for in comfort and finish – beautiful linen, storage suited to longer stays, a bench for your luggage and proper hanging space. Bathroom amenities include shampoo, body wash and hand wash, plus gowns and slippers, which lifts the whole stay from functional to genuinely luxurious. Rooms are accessible via lift and the hotel also offers connecting rooms, which makes it a solid choice for families travelling together.
Sauna – a proper Finnish touch
Level four has a public sauna running separate sessions for men and women and if you’d rather have the space to yourselves, a private sauna can be booked as well. It’s a lovely, authentically Finnish addition to a city-centre stay.
Dining – Monte Rosa is worth the trip alone
The on-site restaurant, Monte Rosa, is a genuine highlight – if you’re a foodie, this alone is worth booking the hotel for. I had the Arctic char and the reindeer prepared two ways, paired with a glass of wine and the food was sensational from start to finish – matched by impeccable service. I would absolutely stay again and Monte Rosa is a big part of why. The room carries the same moody, welcoming, comfortable atmosphere as the rest of the hotel, with a mix of table configurations to suit different groups: booths for four, tables for six, bar-style seating and standard dining tables, all under warm mood lighting. There’s a full bar with a great drinks selection too, making it an easy spot for a relaxed dinner or a drink before heading out.

Breakfast is included in your stay and is also served in Monte Rosa – worth knowing, a cold breakfast is available from 6am, with the hot breakfast starting at 7am, so early starters aren’t left waiting around before heading out for the day. Once again, a carefully curated selection of foods on offer.
Practical extras
Luggage storage is available if you’ve got an early arrival or a late departure, so you’re not stuck waiting around the hotel or dragging bags through town.
If you’d rather book your own taxi than use the hotel transfer, it’s worth knowing the cost – a taxi ordered from the hotel to Rovaniemi Airport started at an €8.10 base fare, with a final total of €28.90 (at the time of writing – September 2026).
