Get Snowsport Coverage with Cover‑More Travel Insurance

There’s something magical about a winter holiday. For me, it’s the crunch of fresh snow under my boots, the icy air on my cheeks and that absolute thrill when you’re flying across a frozen lake on a snowmobile or gliding quietly through the forest behind a team of huskies. But here’s the thing – winter adventures also come with risks. You’re more likely to be in remote areas, medical help can be expensive and bad weather can throw your plans into chaos. This article outlines what you need to know about snowsport coverage with Cover-More travel insurance.

Before our Lapland trip, I made sure we had the right travel insurance – and I went with Cover‑More. I wanted to be certain we were covered for all the snow activities I’d planned, from husky dog sledding to snowmobiling, without any nasty surprises if something went wrong.

Husky Dog Sledding – Covered Without Even Asking

One thing I loved about Cover‑More is that husky dog sledding is automatically included in every policy. No extra fees, no add‑ons – just covered. As long as you’re doing it recreationally and with a professional operator, you’re good to go. I honestly found that such a relief because dog sledding was one of my absolute must‑do experiences and I didn’t want to mess around with extra paperwork or hidden costs.

Snowmobiling – You Need to Add Snow Sports Cover

Snowmobiling was also high on my list, but here’s where you need to be careful – it’s not automatically covered. If you plan to hop on a snowmobile, you have to add Snow Sports Cover when you buy your policy. It’s just a tick‑box during the online booking process, but if you skip it, you won’t be covered for any snowmobiling‑related accidents. I made sure to add it before I even booked my snowmobile safari.

Skiing and Snowboarding – On‑Piste vs. Off‑Piste

When we went skiing in Park City, Utah, I made sure we had Snow Sports Cover added to our policy. We were sticking to the groomed runs, so this level of cover was perfect – it meant if any of us took a tumble (which did happen more than once!), we’d be covered for medical treatment, lift pass refunds and even hire gear if ours got damaged.

Park City has an amazing variety of trails, from gentle greens to fast blues and challenging blacks and we spent our days exploring them all. There was one afternoon where icy conditions caught me off‑guard and I ended up sliding much further than I intended. I was fine – just a bruised ego – but it was such a relief knowing that if I’d been hurt, our insurance had us covered without any grey areas.

If you’re planning to ski or snowboard off‑piste, or you’ve booked a guided powder tour or heli‑skiing, you’ll need to upgrade to Snow Sports+. That extra layer of cover is designed for higher‑risk skiing and snowboarding outside the patrolled runs, but only when you’re with an experienced guide.

Snow Sports Cover vs. Snow Sports+ – What’s the Difference?

Heli-skiing / guided backcountry tours

When I booked, I stuck with Snow Sports Cover because I was staying on the marked trails. But if you’re planning off‑piste runs, backcountry tours, or heli‑skiing, you’ll want Snow Sports+. The extra cost is worth it for that kind of adventure.

How I set up our cover

Buying it online was straightforward:

  1. Pick your base plan (I chose Comprehensive+ for higher limits).
  2. Add Snow Sports Cover (or Snow Sports+ if going off‑piste).
  3. Relax, knowing husky sledding was already included.

Other handy cover I liked

  • Medical cover for snow-related injuries (especially important in remote Lapland).
  • Gear protection in case my ski or snow gear got lost, stolen, or damaged.
  • Piste closure & lack‑of‑snow cover for prepaid passes and lessons.
  • Avalanche cover under Snow Sports+ if you’re with a guide.

If you’re heading somewhere snowy, don’t just assume you’re covered – check the fine print. I loved that husky sledding was automatically included, but snowmobiling and skiing needed the Snow Sports add‑on. And if you’re the adventurous type who wants to ski off‑piste or try heli‑skiing, Snow Sports+ is your way to go for sure!

For me, having the right cover meant I could just focus on enjoying the adventure and magic of Lapland – watching the Northern Lights, racing through snowy forests on a husky sled and exploring frozen landscapes on a snowmobile – without worrying about what would happen if things went wrong.
