One day itinerary Langkawi Beaches and Waterfalls

December 27, 2023 0 By travelfromaustralia

Langkawi is known for its magnificent beaches, mountain ranges, islands and all things nature! Exploring Langkawi’s swimmable locations will be on the top of everyone’s list of things to do on Langkawi island. In this article we are going to share with you our one day itinerary Langkawi beaches and waterfalls, from the land.

Upon arrival we did lots of research about how we would be best to explore Langkawi waterfalls and beaches from the land and we decided that we would design our own tour and hire a private driver and car as this would be the best way to day tour in Langkawi.

Itinerary Langkawi Beaches and Waterfalls

Below we will share with you the itinerary we designed for our private day tour of Langkawi’s beaches and waterfalls!

1. Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells) Waterfall

We absolutely loved Telaga Tujuh! It was a steep climb of stairs to get to the pools to swim, but it sure was worth it! There are great views at the top and you can see the cable cars from there, too. There were a number of pools to swim in and natural slides, which we were told were better than those at Escape (waterpark) in Penang – loved this so much – nature for the win! 👏 We spent 1.5 hours here but we could have stayed longer. To avoid the crowds, we would recommend going early in the morning. At the base of the stairs, there are toilets, restaurants and shops.

2. Temurun Waterfall

This was definitely worth a stop, but not as “fun” as the previous falls. There wasn’t much water flowing due to the small amount of rain there has been, but I can imagine it would be stunning with more water flowing. There is a main pool to swim at the base of the pool and a number of smaller ones on the level down. We enjoyed a swim in both pools available and although small, they were very nice!

You need to keep an eye out for monkeys and mosquitos here.

3. Sandy Skulls Beach

We had a quick stop here for a swim. It’s a beautiful beach, nice and small and away from loud watersports. The outlook was beautiful and the water was refreshing. There were monkeys around so you do need to ensure that your food items are in your bags. There is lots of parking at this beach stop so it is easy for people to park if they are self-driving in a rental car.

4. Pantai Pasir Hitam

Pantai Pasir Hitam is known for its black sandy beaches. To be honest the black sand was not as ‘black’ as we had expected. There certainly was black sand, however, at the main beach it wasn’t all black, it was more swirled in with regular sand. There are two swings at the main beach which were fun to sit on and a beautiful view across to Thailand with Langkawi’s islands dotted around as well. There is also a big industrial site off the left of the main beach which is a bit of an eye sore.

There are shops, a restaurant, a playground and a lovely rainbow walkway at Pantai Pasir Hitam.

5. Scarborough Fish and Chips

Scarborough Fish and Chips was a great lunch stop! Who doesn’t love fish and chips by the sea, after all! But, if you don’t, there are other items on the menu. Scarborough had a great vibe – there was music playing, beautiful views across to Thailand, delicious food, cold drinks and plenty of room in front of the beach side restaurant for the kids to run around and play while we waited for the food to arrive!

6. Tanjung Rhu Beach

Langkawi beaches

Boasting to be one of the most popular land-based beaches on Langkawi island and we can see why! It was quiet which was a nice change from the more vibrant Pantai Cenang. There is a large amount of sand to sit on and enjoy this island paradise, plenty of room for everyone to have their own space. There are a number of restaurants nearby, shops to buy beach gear and cold drinks. There are beach lounges available for hire and activities to pay to participate in.

There are beach volleyball courts available for use, 4WD, Mangrove tours, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and more. We highly recommend a day at Tanjung Rhu Beach.
