Day 1: City Icons and Panoramic Views

Morning – Auckland Wharf & Fish Market
Start your Auckland adventure by heading to the harbour. Stroll along the waterfront, soak up the city views, and explore the Auckland Fish Market. If you’re a seafood lover, this is a must-do – you can even pick your seafood fresh from the market stalls and have it cooked right in front of you. It’s a feast for the senses and a memorable way to begin your trip.

Afternoon – Sky Tower Experience
Next, make your way to the Sky Tower, Auckland’s most famous landmark. At 328 metres tall, it offers unbeatable panoramic views across the city and harbour. Start at Level 51, where you can brave the glass floor (warning: it makes your legs wobble even though it’s completely safe!). Then continue up to Level 60 for floor-to-ceiling windows and incredible 360° views. If you’re feeling brave, you can have a go at the Sky Walk or Sky Jump, or if you prefer, you can just watch others do it – that was enough for us! It is a heart-stopping plunge off the tower that’s not for the faint-hearted.

Evening – Dinner by the Harbour
End your first day with dinner along the waterfront. There are countless restaurants offering everything from fresh seafood to international cuisine. Watching the sunset over the harbour is the perfect way to wrap up your first day.

Day 2: Nature, Gardens and History

Morning – Auckland Domain and Wintergardens
Day two begins in Auckland Domain, the city’s oldest park. Here you’ll find the Wintergardens and Fernery, a lush oasis filled with vibrant flowers, tropical plants and tranquil fern-lined pathways. The bonus? Entry is free and parking is free too! It’s one of Auckland’s best-kept secrets and an absolute must for nature lovers.

The park is also home to the Auckland War Memorial Museum, an impressive building where you can learn about New Zealand’s history, culture and natural world.

Afternoon – Mt Eden Crater Walk
Next, lace up your shoes for a short hike up Mt Eden, one of Auckland’s many volcanic cones. The walk from the car park is a little steep but quick and the reward is worth it – sweeping views of the entire city from the boardwalk that circles the crater. Even on a rainy day, it’s impressive, but on a clear day the views would be spectacular.

Evening – Explore Auckland’s Dining Scene
From casual family-friendly cafes to high-end restaurants, Auckland has a buzzing food scene. This is your chance to explore and try something new – whether it’s local craft beer, international flavours, or a cosy spot near your accommodation.

Day 3: Coastal Adventures and Family Fun

Morning – Auckland’s Stunning Coastline
Make the most of Auckland’s coastline by driving east to enjoy a day by the water. Stop at Bastion Point for beautiful harbour views, then continue along the coast to Mission Bay and St Heliers. These seaside suburbs offer golden beaches, great cafes and walking tracks with stunning ocean outlooks. Don’t miss Achilles Point, where you’ll find some of the most breath-taking views of the Hauraki Gulf.

Afternoon – MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology)
Finish your Auckland adventure with a visit to MOTAT. This museum is packed with interactive exhibits and is a hit with both kids and adults. Highlights include the Telecommunications Centre, the whisper dish, VR experiences and even vintage trams like the St Kilda Beach tram. It’s fun, educational and the perfect way to round out your Auckland stay.

Evening – Dinner and Reflect
Visit some of the more affluent parts of Auckland such as Parnell and Newmarket for a meal while you relax and reflect on your time in Auckland.
